Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

03/04/2018 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Nate is a talented and strong 2020 2-way prospect. At 2B, Nate has good foot work to the ball and presents a low/early glove. He has a clean exchange and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Nate loads his hands back into the drive position and stays balanced through contact. He has good pre-pitch rhythm and attacks the inside part of the ball. On the bump, Nate separates on time, keeps his eyes on his target, and keeps a strong front side. Nate will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress on the future.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Nate continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through an athletic / open setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball utilizing all fields with a gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he makes consistent hard contact. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. He shows off his athletic abilities on his of the double play feeds / turn. Range will continue to increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-70 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/17/2017 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Nate is a lean RHP/2B who will graduate in 2020. At 2B, he displays clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper angles but needs to attack ball more and play through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his double play footwork. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields well through a line drive approach. Hitting grade will improve as he works to get his stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with downward action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Nate has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
