Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1BPosition Projection

10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Nate continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with the makings of a special type player at the next level. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, power potential is now at a pro level through an athletic / open setup. He only showed as a RHH at the event. Hands are quick (94 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the baseball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball coming off his bat differently when centered. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/18/2017 - College PREP - Highland Park (DFW), TX Nate is an athletic 1B prospect who has a strong build and graduates in 2019. As a switch-hitter, Nate has a solid approach from both sides of the plate. He has a square, athletic stance with a centered balance and firm front side. He has fluid timing with a good load and square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Nate shows explosive bat speed with a direct, on-plane swing path producing hard, consistent contact. He has the ability to drive the ball to each gap. Nate also shows the ability to use his strength with pull side power. In the field, Nate is a sure handed 1B who keeps everything in front of him. He does a nice job moving with swiftly with good bag awareness. He fields the ball squarely with a firm glove. Nate throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a restricted arm action. Overall, Nate is a talented offensive prospect with potential to advance his defensive giving him upside to take his game to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
