Official Scouting Report

  • 1BPosition Projection

09/16/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Boise, ID Nathan is a lean 1B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the field, Nathan flashes good range to his backhand side and fields in a square position. He throws from a 3/4 angle and makes accurate throws to his target. Nathan can improve defensively by fielding the ball out in front of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and hits from a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact to all fields. Nathan can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. With four more years to develop, Nathan has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Nathan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays on plane and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. At the event, he as 4 for 6. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. Hands are clean and present well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. He moves well laterally with range improving as he improves quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/17/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Boise, ID Nathan is a 2B/C who will graduate in 2022. Defensively at 2B, he takes solid routes and tries to work into a square fielding position on GB's. He fields the ball, sets his feet and makes aggressive throws to his target. Behind the plate, he presents a good target. He sticks pitches well into the zone and tries to center when blocking. As a hitter, Nathan sets up square and tracks with patience. He gets separation and looks to drive pitches back up through the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Lateral quickness
2. Develop soft hands
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Catching
1. Low setup
2. Quick footwork
3. Accurate throws
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Develop rhythm
3. Level out swing path

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
