Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

06/16/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Bowker showed improved arm strength in the OF with life, accuracy, and on line carry into his target. He works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target as he shows a solid feel for his OF play. Offensively, he shows a quiet approach and battles with 2 strikes. Swing path gets up hill with power numbers improving as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. At the event, he was 2 for 6. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-74 mph with slight tail. Off speed pitches have improved showing as quality pitches. Breaking ball is advanced and will get outs at the next level. Stock on the mound will rise quickly if velocities rise. Nathan is a gamer showing solid instinct and plays the game hard.

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Nathan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and showed as a solid two-way player in the OF plus on the mound. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.49 runner. Defensively abilities in the OF have really improved as he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles in tracking down balls, displaying range. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He will benefit by staying on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength plus raising velocity on the mound. Offensively, Nathan shows solid barrel accuracy with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He has an idea at the plate and is aggressive with balls in the zone. At the event, he was 4 for 11 with 2 2B and a 3B. On the mound, fastball showed good movement to the arm side. He showed very nice feel for his change-up and his curveball will improve through maintaining his arm speed through the delivery of that pitch. He showed to have a great attitude and passion for the game and made excellent adjustments throughout the week.

09/19/2010 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Nathan is a young, athletic OF who hits from the left side. Defensively, Nathan has a reliable glove, a quiet head, and he reads the ball off the bat well. He squares his body well to his target, gets okay extension, and throws accurately with carry to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Nathan can improve his footwork, attack ground balls more aggressively, and add arm strength. At the plate, Nathan has average balance and good bat speed and barrel accuracy. He has loose actions, a relaxed approach, and he swings in good rhythm. Nathan has a short swing and he can spray the ball to all fields. Hitting grades can further improve if Nathan can tap into more lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
