09/23/2018 - College PREP - Fresno, CA
Nathan is an athletic RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Nathan gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Nathan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with tailing action. Slider sits from 62-68mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 57-58mph with good arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Nathan can improve as a pitcher by finishing with his chest over his front knee. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and maintains center balance. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with explosive bat speed which leads to hard contact and line drives. Nathan can improve as a hitter by shortening his stride. Overall, Nathan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.
07/09/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18)
Nathan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.39 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground and makes the routine plays. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 6 for 9. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.
