Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Nathan continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. Continuing to develop his foot speed will help to increase range in the IF. Offensively, he works on time and shows an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power numbers will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 4. On the mound, fastball showed in the high 60 range. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. With 2 years to further develop, Nathan has abilities with time and room to improve.

10/25/2015 - College PREP - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Nathan is a tall, solid LHP/1B that will graduate in 2018. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-72 mph through a high 3/4 arm slot. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. At 1B, he displays proper footwork and clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more and utilizes 2 hands through the fielding process. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work inside the baseball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power grade will improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. With 3 years to further develop, Nathan has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
