Official Scouting Report

  • 4Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Nathan is a well-built RHP/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Nathan has a confident setup and pitches with composed emotions. He has a square setup with a small starter step. Nathan has balanced mechanics throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He stays in line with his shoulders and stride. Nathan commands his curveball with medium break and his fastball shows sink movement. Offensively, Nathan has a relaxed setup and maintains a quiet head. He has loose, comfortable hands with an activated load and centered stride. Nathan shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path. He engages his core as he rotates and produces hard contact. Nathan shows the ability to drive with power. In the field, Nathan has an athletic ready position and moves with active footwork. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low, athletic position. Nathan has a long arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate with good carry across the diamond. Overall, Nathan is a talented prospect who can make an impact at the next level.

11/18/2018 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Nathan is a tall, athletic 1B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is well above average as throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Nathan has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
