01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Ling continues to show as an OF/LHP but currently projects best in the OF for the next level. At the plate, hitting grades have improved, now showing outstanding abilities with well above average power through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. He utilizes his quick, feet well in getting down the line and runs everything out. In the OF, defensive grade are well above average as he displays quick / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. He works to get behind ball and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws display accuracy, life with on line carry showing outstanding arm strength. On the mound, fastball showed on a slight downhill plane with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with sharp / late break. Command / control are solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, works to get ahead of hitters and changes speeds well.

12/20/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Ling showed as a LHP and in the OF for the first time at the event and has improved his baseball abilities, projecting well at both positions. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 83 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-83 mph with arm side run / sink. Breaking ball shows as a quality pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with late breaking action. Command / control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. In the OF, foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.2 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. At the plate, Nathan continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting abilities and power numbers through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, showing plus pop. At the event, he was 5 for 9 with 2 3B and a HR. Mental makeup is a plus as he has athletic abilities, plays hard, and is very coachable.

11/17/2013 - College PREP - Houston, TX Nathan is a tall, solid LHP that will graduate in 2014. Delivery is repeatable as he uses his lower half well and allows his arm action to work long and well to the plate through a 3/4 arm slot. Fastball shows a range of 75-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sink. Slider resembles breaking ball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches and locates to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Nathan has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
