07/12/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Mitchell only showed on the mound at the event. Arm action is long, loose and easy as he works with a solid tempo. Fastball showed in the low 80 range with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late depth and shows as a quality pitch when he stays on top. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches and changes speeds well.

06/02/2013 - National Tryout - Atlanta, GA In Nate's most recent Factory outing he came out as a pitcher only. On the bump, he hit his highest velocity to date - 86 MPH - and showed his best numbers with his other pitches as well. He continues to have loose arm action with good extension over the front side. His delivery is repeatable and there is still potential for greater velocity when he becomes more complete with his finish. Offensively, he is swinging the bat exceptionally well, with quick hands and a good feel for barrel accuracy. Nate is a strong young player that projects well as a starting guy with three legitimate pitches at the next level.

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Nathan performed well at the Pirate City Christmas Tournament. He continued to show his controlled delivery and loose, easy arm stroke. He has good poise on the mound and appears confident and in control. He has rhythm and direction in his delivery along with a quiet head with his eyes on the target. This combination leads to lots of strikes and has us convinced that the arrow is pointing up on this pitching prospect. As velocity increases it will make his fastball more effective and improve the consistency of the bite on his breaking ball which has good shape to it. Nathan showed his athleticism by swinging the bat, playing the outfield and running the bases very well in the tournament. Overall, we feel his brightest future will be on the mound helping a pitching staff at the next level.

10/14/2012 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Nathan is a tall, lanky RHP that will graduate in 2014. Delivery is sound / repeatable displaying proper mechanics that allows his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Arm action is long and easy through a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball shows a range of 71-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a solid feel for with arm side run / sink. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well. Stock on the mound will improve quickly as more arm strength is gained.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
