Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Nathan is a strong, two-way prospect who currently is slightly more developed behind the plate than on the mound. He shows natural hitting instincts at the dish with the ability to drive the ball to the alleys. On the hill, this right hander has a projectable frame with good balance and tempo in his delivery and a loose arm with good command. He works to both sides of the plate with all three pitches, flashing a good fastball with sink in the upper 70's. Behind the plate, he shows soft hands to block and receive, working around pitches to present them in the zone. His footwork is efficient and he shows a clean exchange and release to throw online to his target and keep runners where they are. Working on a wider setup will lead to increase lateral movement and reduce time the time to block. At the plate, he tracks the ball well with a good idea of the strike zone and how he wants to attack pitchers. His swing is smooth with good rhythm and he is able to spray the ball around the field for base hits. Nathan is a skilled player who looks to have the tools to play at the next level.

10/30/2016 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Nathan is a strong, solidly-built two-way prospect who currently shows a higher ceiling as a catcher. He works well behind the plate with smooth actions and quick feet that lead to quick times to second base (2.03 pop time). On the bump, he displays an efficient delivery and pounds the zone with strikes, attacking hitters early in the count. He works downhill with his big frame and gets late sink on both his fastball and splitter, which is his out pitch with a chance to be devastating. Working on throwing all of his pitches with the same arm action will increase deception and make him even tougher on the mound. Behind the plate, he is quiet to receive, working around the ball on both sides of the plate to earn strikes for his pitcher. He has quick feet and agile movements to get down quickly and move well laterally to block with confidence. He shows off an easy swing at the plate with a short path and fast bat speed through the zone. He gets good separation with his hands to launch to the ball and extend through contact, showing solid pop to the pull side. Nathan is an exciting prospect who we look forward to watching continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
