07/20/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Walker showed only on the mound where he has improved his abilities with a tremendous upside. Command / control are tremendous as he attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo and polished delivery. Arm action is loose and quick, working well to the plate. Arm strength has improved, showing at a pro level as he topped out at 90 mph. Fastball showed range of 87-90 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows as an outstanding pitch that will get outs at the next level. He shows off his athletic abilities on holding runners as he controls the running game. Nathan will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his abilities on the mound with makings of a solid draft type guy in 2016.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Walker showed as a C/RHP at the event and shows a promising future at both positons where he has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.09. Behind the plate, pop times have really improved showing a range of 1.82-1.91 with life / carry / accuracy on his throws as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He will control the running game with his feet / arm. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He has leverage in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 87 mph. Fastball showed a range of 83-87 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball is outstanding displaying 11/5 shape with sharp / late break. Changeup is a quality pitch as he maintains arm speed, showing a feel for with sinking action. Control is tremendous as he pounds the zone, throwing strikes with all his pitches. Nathan has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

09/27/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures West Nathan is the rare combination of talented catcher and RHP. His long, lean frame is athletic and will add strength as he matures. Behind the plate he has a quick exchange with a short, efficient arm stroke and lots of carry to his throws to 2B. He was as low as 1.87 at this event right on the bag. He blocks very well too, showing a knack for deadening balls right in front of him. His hands are good giving him the look of a quality future receiver. At the plate Nathan has some pull side pop and makes some hard contact. Some refinements to his swing will lead to more consistency. On the mound he has a long, fluid arm stroke that produces mid 80s velocity on a fastball with downhill plane. He also throws a sharp breaking ball. Overall, Nathan is a very talented young player with multiple skills and a bright future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
