Official Scouting Report

05/24/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Keizer (Salem), OR Nathan is an athletic 3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At 3B, Nathan shows proper footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields with a firm glove. He throws from a high 3/4 angle and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. Making a quicker exchange can help Nathan improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid contact to all fields. Nathan can improve as a hitter by maintaining center balance throughout his swing. Overall, Nathan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

08/11/2019 - College PREP - Springfield, OR Nathan is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect. At the hot corner, Nathan is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and fields the ball in front of his body. He has a good first step to the ball and plays through the ball. He has smooth hands and throws from multiple arm angles. On the bump, Nathan gathers over the rubber and stays directional toward the plate. He gets some movement on his fastball and has a medium break on his curveball. He throws his changeup with FB arm speed and throws in down in the zone. Nathan will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/10/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Nathan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are aggressive in attacking balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft / clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 65 mph. Fastball showed a range of 62-65 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/28/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Keizer (Salem), OR Nathan is a 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2022. Defensively at 3B, he takes an active prep step and attacks the GB. He fields the ball in a low/square position and makes accurate throws to his target. On the hill, this righty gathers over the rubber and delivers from a 3/4 arm slot with clean arm action. He separates on time and has a strong frontside as he delivers a 3-pitch mix. With the stick, Nathan gets back into a good load. He consistently barrels up the ball and drives pitches from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Lateral quickness
2. Develop soft hands
3. Smoother backhand
Pitching
1. Be a strike thrower
2. Use more lower 1/2
3. Stay directional
Offense
1. Work on timing
2. Improve bat speed
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
