  • 1BPosition Projection

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Nazier is a solid 1B that will graduate in 2015. At 1B he fields out in front of his body with sure / soft hands, uses the proper footwork with his approach, and has good body control. He works well around the bag and presents a big target at 1B. His exchange is quick and he is a vocal leader in the infield. At the plate he has a smooth load, good balance, and a fluid rhythm. He has a selective approach seeing a lot of pitches and he works the count into his favor. He has a short / compact swing with good bat speed. His barrel accuracy was excellent and he consistently hit solid line drives.

07/11/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Nazier displayed consistent actions on both sides of the ball in his most recent showcase with Team One Baseball presented by Baseball Factory. Defensively at first, he made plays with efficient feet and good body control. He had clean hands to field and received around the bag with good footwork. Offensively, he had a free/easy swing with loose hands and fluid actions. He used the entire field and was solid to and through the ball with extension. In all - McIlwain is a L/L guy that has projection as a 1B at the next level.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament McIlwain features a short, direct left handed stroke along with a balanced hitting approach. He has some rhythm to hit, gets upper half activated and stride down on time. He keeps his head quiet thru contact, and his hands work to and thru contact well - allowing him to hit the ball solid to all fields. Defensive, he plays low and works with his hands out front. His exchange and release are solid, and he has a pretty good feel for the bag. Can work to improve his overall quickness and ability to move laterally.

08/25/2013 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Naziel is a solid first basemen that can swing the stick. From the left side, he generates fast bat speed, has a fluid path and gap-to-gap power. He has a strong approach, quiet actions and can flat out hit, with greater potential. At first, he is sure handed, has good footwork around the bag, athletic actions and a loose arm. In the outfield, McIlwan has a controlled approach, and decent exchange. Currently, however, he projects best as a L/L 1B that fits the offensive mold.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
