01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Asaro continues to show well on the diamond. At the plate, this LH swinger stands in well with an athletic setup and simple/quiet actions. He connects with strength and sprays the ball to the gaps. In the OF, Nicholas has active prep and moves well on the balls of his feet. He gets good reads off of the bat, works into position behind the ball and secures the catch with soft/sure hands. Exchange/transfer is smooth as he fires throws with carry into his target. Nicholas projects well and will make an impact in this his senior season.

06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Nicholas showed consistent actions in the tournament setting at the Omaha Baseball Factory National World Series. Offensively, he had good rhythm to hit, was direct with the barrel and generated good bat speed through the zone. He kept his hands stacked in his hitting position and was smooth through the zone. He worked on becoming more aggressive to hit and collect a couple of hits over the course of the tournament. At 3B, he worked with efficient feet to get his body in a position to field and was soft with the glove. He threw with carry across the diamond and focused on improving glove presentation during the camp. In all - Nicholas has a bright future ahead of him as a hard hitting lefty, corner defender.

03/15/2015 - College PREP - Lake Charles, LA Nicholas is a solid 3B/OF that will graduate in 2016. At 3B, feet are active as he moves well laterally. Hands work as presents well out front, displaying sure hands. He gets rid of the baseball quickly but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls, displaying range. Hands are soft / clean, using two hands well through the catch and throw process. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls, play through with momentum to his target and increase foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a direct / level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with power showing best to the pull side. Power numbers will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. Nicholas has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
