Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

02/19/2018 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Nicholas is a hardworking LHP/1B prospect who has a lanky build. On the mound, Nicholas has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a clean arm action and extends through his release. Nicholas has a controlled landing and is closed to home plate. He effectively uses his front side and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Nicholas shows run movement on his fastball and good depth with his changeup. Offensively, Nicholas has a square, athletic setup with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and short, square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. He tracks the ball well and has an aggressive approach. Nicholas has a long swing path and produces square contact. He has a middle of the field approach and is a line drive type hitter. In the field, Nicholas plays with effective pre-pitch actions and fluid footwork. He presents his glove and fields the ball in an athletic position with soft hands. Nicholas has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release showing consistent throws across the diamond. Overall, Nicholas has a versatile skill set and potential to get even better with development.

07/31/2016 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Nicholas is a 1B/LHP who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, Nicholas has a good, repeatable delivery with great arm action and a controlled landing. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball ranging from 60-64mph with good arm side run. Breaking ball sits 50-54mph with 2-8 break. Changeup ranges from 58-61mph with good cutting action. Nicholas can improve as a pitcher by gaining more momentum to the plate in his delivery. In the field, Nicholas picks the ball well at 1B. He has a clean exchange and keeps his throws on-line to his target. Nicholas can improve defensively by playing through the ball more and by incorporating a long toss program to improve his arm strength. At the plate, Nicholas has a middle approach and shows decent balance in the box. He activates his hands well in his load and comes through the zone with decent bat speed. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by squaring off his stride and by letting the ball travel deeper into the zone. Overall, Nicholas is a solid two way player and will be a name to follow as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
