04/29/2012 - College PREP - Providence, RI Nicholas is a thick and solid catcher who swings from the left side. Offensively, he displays a square setup, no load, and short square stride. He maintains good balance, he uses his lower 1/2 well and he has some pop to his pull-side. He shows good rhythm and is a line-drive type hitter. More of a load and leveling out his swing will help his offensive abilities improve. Defensively behind the plate, he shows soft hands when receiving and a clean exchange. He moves well laterally and deadens the ball, keeping it in front. A lower setup and stronger arm will help to improve his defensive abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
