07/28/2019 - College PREP - West Harrison (NYC), NY Nicholas is a strong, athletic catcher who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, he shows fluid footwork and takes good angles when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and presents a good target to the pitcher, receiving with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through the 2B bag. Pop times showed in 2.37 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid contact to all fields. With 2 years to further develop, Nicholas has abilities with time and room to further develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
