Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

10/19/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Pitching/Catching & Offensive Skills Combined Weekend (Ages 12-14) Nicholas is a coachable LHP/1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, Nicholas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Nicholas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 66-67mph with sharp 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 67-68mph with sinking action. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He is controlled getting his hands activated in his load and is explosive driving his lower half. He takes a level swing with plus bat speed, leading to loud contact and gap to gap pop. Overall, Nicholas is a talented prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

08/18/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Uniondale (Long Island), NY Nicholas raised arm velocity to 73 MPH, lowered 60 time to 8.16, and showed offensive and defensive improvements during his last workout. At 1B, Nicholas has active feet and he fields the baseball in an athletic position. He has firm/presentable hands, he makes plays consistently, and he throws with consistency and momentum to his target. On the mound, Nicholas has good balance, he works in good rhythm, and his arm is loose. He works on a downhill plane and shows a controlled landing toward the plate. Offensively, this LHH has fast bat speed and good feel for the barrel. He has a balanced approach, he swings in good rhythm, and makes hard contact.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Nicholas is an athletic and talented 2024 2-way prospect. On the bump, Nicholas shows confidence and competes. He gathers over the rubber, stays directional, and works over the front side. He needs to continue to separate on time and create backside drive toward the plate. His fastball tops out at 63 and he has good command of his changeup. At the plate, Nicholas was aggressive on the fastball and got a nice base hit. He needs to continue to keep a quiet head and be on time for the fastball. Nicholas will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/14/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Uniondale (Long Island), NY Nicholas is a tall, athletic, 2-way player who plays 1B and LHP. Defensively, Nicholas has active feet, presentable hands, and he moves with good agility to the ball. He has smooth actions, a clean exchange, and throws with carry and consistency to his target. On the mound, Nicholas has a loose arm action, he stands over the rubber well balanced, and gets good extension on his pitches. He separates on time, lands with good direction toward home, and throws strikes. Offensively, Nicholas has an athletic set-up, good balance, and he hits from a strong base. He makes square contact, he can spray to all fields, and he uses his lower body. Overall skills can get better if Nicholas can work on the following.

Infield
1. Backhand
2. Loosen AA
3. Bag awareness
Pitching
1. Stay tall
2. Smooth out delivery
3. Avoid rushing
Offense
1. Load
2. Bat speed
3. Lower body

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
