09/22/2012 - Pitching/Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Nick is a big framed catcher who looks the part. Behind the dish he has a quick release and good footwork which will continue to improve with an increase emphasis on foot speed. Nick has the body to play the position but will need work on his flexibility and overall athleticism. His work in these areas will immediately increase his arm strength and help him to lower his pop time and move better behind the plate. Nick will have to soften up his hands as a receiver, and once he does his handling of pitchers will immediately improve. Nick is good kid, with a good work athletic and has the physical tools/presence to continue improve behind the plate.

07/08/2012 - Select Training at the All-Star Game Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He threw his best pop time to date at 2.75. Pop times show a range at 2.75-3.10 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength and works to get rid of the ball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as payable tools at the next level as he continues to improve. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved as he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more through the swing.

09/18/2010 - Accelerated Pitching/Catching Weekend (Commuter) Nicholas is a young (2014) catcher with a thick frame that shows projection as he continues to polish and firm up. Foot speed is well below average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active in working in line with his target through clean / exchange. Pop times show a range of 3.04-3.24 with throws flashing accuracy. He must get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry. Receiving and blocking skills need further work and instruction to be quality tools at the next level. He needs to work on framing balls more in the center of his body. Blocking skills got better at the camp and will continue to improve if he develops more flexibility. Offensively, Falco is a switch hitter that shows best from the left side. He makes consistent contact but has mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. With 4 years to further develop, Nicholas has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
