08/08/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Nicholas showed many improvements in his overall game during his last workout in Trenton. He worked out behind the plate and at 3B. In the INF, Nicholas makes plays easily, fields from the right, and plays through the ball properly. He picks out the right hops, funnels cleanly, and throws with a smooth arm action across the diamond. Behind the plate, Nicholas has active footwork, soft hands, and he gains ground well. He throws with a short/loose arm action with pop times as low as 1.89 to 2nd base. Offensively, Nicholas has a short/levels swing path, a proper load, and fast bat speed. He makes hard/consistent contact and can work the ball gap to gap.

07/05/2017 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting abilities. Hands are quick (his best exit velocity being 87mph) and work through an aggressive path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 3 of 6 with a 2B and 3 BB as he shows a solid eye / patient approach. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times were at 2.15 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level as he continues to develop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a hard worker as he plays with a lot of energy.

02/20/2017 - College PREP - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Nicholas continues to show a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the low 2.00 range with life, accuracy, and on line carry to his throws as he displays outstanding arm strength. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 3B, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works to square balls up through a low approach. Glove action is soft / sure as he present well out front. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the balls, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Nicholas will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Nicholas is a talented C/3B prospect who does a nice job calling a game and handling pitchers. Behind the plate, Nicholas stays low with his setup and has a solid base. He moves well laterally with active footwork. He receives pitches well with a soft glove. Nicholas has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a low 3/4 slot. Offensively, Nicholas has a tall, open setup with smooth rhythm. He has strong hands and wrists with a long swing path. Nicholas is a line drive type hitter who flashes power to the pull side. Overall, Nicholas is a projectable prospect who has the intangibles to make him an impactful catcher at the next level.

08/08/2016 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball tools with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.09 range with accuracy and carry on throws. Feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 3B, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are quick as he moves well laterally, displaying range. He plays through balls and presents glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

12/13/2015 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Nicholas is a talented 2-way player (C/3B) who has a strong lower 1/2. He excels at the plate. Offensively, this righty has a square setup with fluid rhythm to load. He whips the barrel to and through the zone aggressively and connects with pop. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it to all parts of the field. Behind the dish, Nicholas sits in well with flexion tracking pitches into a soft mitt. He sticks the ball framing well. Quick footwork allow him to move laterally to block pitches in the dirt, keeping the ball in front. Throws down to 2B are on the bag - pop times at 2.08. At the hot corner, Font has smooth actions working from right to left. He gathers cleanly and works through the ball well. Nicholas is a very talented prospect who will make things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
