06/20/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Nicholas showed strong ability as a left handed hitting SS at the Omaha Baseball Factory National World Series. Defensively, he worked low to field in front with a sure glove and generated momentum to throw across the diamond. He was aggressive to come get his hops and accurate from multiple arm slots to initiate and finish plays. Offensively, he tracked well and had a sound contact approach. He was balanced and athletic in his setup, got his hands activated, and extended through contact. Staying compact with his barrel delivery and utilizing all contact points should be a focus moving forward. In all - Nicholas was 6 for 11 on the tournament with 5 singles, a triple, 2 walks, and a hit by pitch.

12/07/2014 - College PREP - Pensacola, FL Nicholas is a R/R 2-way player as a SS/OF. Offensively, he shows a balanced approach with a good base. He remains patient waiting for his pitch and has a repeatable swing. More lower ½ drive will result in increased power. At SS, he shows quick/active footwork as he is aggressive and comes to get the ground ball. Glove presentation is out in front, he gathers well, and works in-line toward his target at 1B. Playing through the ball and gaining more ground toward his target will help to improve his skills in the MIF. In the OF, Gardner takes solid routes/angles and works into position behind the fly-ball. He can cover some ground with his (7.07 60 yard dash) speed. He secures the ball with 2-hands and has a clean exchange to throw. A 2016 grad - Nicholas has skills and will only continue to progress over the next 2 years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
