Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) Nicholas is a tall 1B/RHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Opening Day Classic. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He hits against a strong front side and drives the ball from gap to gap with authority. In the field, Nicholas takes a quick first step and makes the routine plays, working to keep his throws accurate to his target. On the mound, Nicholas shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 64-66mph with 10-4 break. Overall, Nicholas is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

12/14/2019 - Nor Cal Regional Offensive Skills and Pitching/Catching Combined Weekend (Ages 14-18) Nicholas is a RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, Nicholas gathers over the rubber and keeps his eyes on target, finishing square towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 55-59mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 61-63mph with arm side run. Loosening his arm action can help Nicholas improve as a pitcher. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes his stride on time. He is smooth getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by loosening his grip on the bat. Overall, Nicholas is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Nicholas is an athletic RHP/OF who has a promising futre on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an aggressive approach. Hands are quick, and work through level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. In the OF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-75 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. With 4 years to further develop, Nicholas has the makings of a special type player as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
