  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

12/27/2019 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Nicholas continues to shine on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper / routes angels in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 62-63 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm strength on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/21/2019 - College PREP - Fargo, ND Nicholas is a strong, athletic LHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared, athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a short / direct / level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70 mph. Breaking ball sits from 53-58 mph with 2/8 shape with gradual break. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, Nicholas has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
