Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

12/04/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Highland Park (DFW), TX Nicholas is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame lean build with strength present and room to add throughout. In the infield, showed good agility, with efficient footwork, and has good hand/eye coordination. He shows good lateral range as works he works to center the baseball and fields from an athletic/square fielding position. Fields with his hands out front, with a clean transfer, and has a loose arm stroke. He made on-line throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 87mph across diamond. Showed good touch on his DP feeds. On the mound, he separates his hands on-time and works with good direction down the mound. Has a clean arm stroke and keeps his fingers behind the baseball. He attacks hitters with his FB that sat 75-76mph that he keeps down, an 11/5 shaped slider, and a changeup with tailing action and plus command. Nicholas needs to adjust his grip on his breaking ball for better command and spin. A right-handed hitter, he hits from an upright and even stance. Gets hands separated, with good bat angle at contact, and gets extended through the baseball. He showed ability to get on-plane early as he sprayed balls into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 71mph. With another year of continued growth and development, we foresee Nicholas making huge strides on the baseball field.

12/06/2020 - All-In Membership - San Bernardino, CA Nicholas is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. In the field, Nicholas shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, consistently keeping them on-line to his target. Long tossing can help Nicholas build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth to load and hits against a strong front side. He works to barrel up the baseball and uses the entire field well. Nicholas can barrel up more baseballs by working through a more level swing path. On the mound, Nicholas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Nicholas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph. Breaking ball sits from 60-65mph with 11-5 break. Cutter sits from 65-68mph with good movement. Keeping his eyes level throughout his delivery can help Nicholas improve his pitch command. Overall, Nicholas is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
