06/26/2023 - National Showcase - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Nicholas is a 2025 2B/RHP prospect who continues to show off improved skills on the diamond. At second, he shows off active, efficient feet and covers ground to all sides. He gets in a squared fielding position and presents his hands out in front, working right to left through the baseball to his target. He makes all the routine plays in the infield and shows some feel for his backhand. His exchange is clean and he makes consistent throws to his targets. At the plate, he starts in a squared stance and gets a good hand load back. He shows off a smooth rhythm and does a good job of keeping his balance centered through his swing. His swing path is on-plane and he squares the ball up consistently, barreling up 6 out of 10 swings. On the mound, he throws from a 3/4 slot and shows off good control. He gathers his balance over the rubber and gets on-time separation to the plate. His arm action is loose and he extends through his release, staying squared to the plate and getting a controlled landing. His FB has some arm side run and he shows off good command with the pitch. His 2-seam has some sink. He does a good job of keeping his CH down in the zone and throws it with a natural stroke. Overall, Nicholas is an exciting prospect that we are excited to see more of in the future!

04/03/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Russellton, PA Nicholas is a 2B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. In the field, Nicholas shows efficient footwork and creates good angles. He gets into an athletic position and fields with soft hands. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them on-line to his target. Long tossing can help Nicholas build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and works through a direct swing, spraying the ball to all fields. Nicholas can barrel up more baseballs by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Nicholas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and repeats his delivery well. Nicholas operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 57-58mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 62-64mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Driving his lower half more can help Nicholas increase his pitch velocity. With three more years to develop, Nicholas has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
