Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

11/12/2020 - Baseball Factory Select Training at Pirate City Nicholas continues to shine on the diamond. In the OF he displays smooth actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 59-60 mph with cutting action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and develops off speed pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

11/07/2020 - Pittsburgh Regional Pitching/Catching & Offensive Skills Combined Weekend Nicholas is a RHP/OF prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Pittsburgh Skills Weekend. On the mound, Nicholas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Nicholas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 61mph. Breaking ball sits from 53-56mph. Changeup sits from 45-46mph. Long tossing can help Nicholas build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a centered stride. He gets into his load and works through a compact swing, producing loud contact and line drives. Nicholas can barrel up more baseballs by working a smoother rhythm into his load. Overall, Nicholas is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

08/23/2020 - Summer Pro Training Experience - MD (MS) Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/09/2019 - Baseball Factory Advanced Analytics & Pro Training Experience (Ages 12-14) Nicholas is a coachable RHP/IF prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Analytics Training Weekend. Nicholas shows a quick 10 yard dash (1.98 seconds) and finishes his 60 well. Continuing to add strength and develop will help Nicholas improve his athleticism. At the plate, this RHH uses his body well and gets his exit velo up to 68mph. Working on his contact points can help Nicholas improve as a hitter. In the field, Nicholas attacks the ball aggressively and works to make accurate throws to his target. Taking a more efficient first step can help Nicholas improve defensively. With six more years to develop, Nicholas has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

03/02/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Pitching & Catching Weekend (Ages 12-14) Nicholas is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, Nicholas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Nicholas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 52mph. Breaking ball sits at 44mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 42-44mph. Loosening his arm action can help Nicholas improve as a pitcher. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He hits agains a strong front side and drives the ball to the opposite field. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. With six more years to develop, Nicholas has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
