09/19/2020 - Fall Pro Training Experience - NJ (HS) Nicholas continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At SS, he displays smooth actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/03/2018 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Nicholas is a coachable MIF prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic. In the field, Nicholas shows the proper footwork and fields the ball in a square position. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them accurate with good carry through his target. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in an athletic stance and is smooth getting into his load. He drives through well with his lower half and takes a direct swing to the ball, producing loud contact and line drives. With three more years to develop, Nicholas has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Nicholas is an athletic and talented 2021 SS switch hitting prospect. At SS, Nicholas has an active prep step and present a low/early glove. He works from the ground up and throws from multiple arm angles. Continuing to funnel the ball into the body and exchange the ball in font will allow him to create momentum to his target. At the plate, Nicholas starts in an open stance and loads his hands back into the drive position on both sides. From the right side he stays in his legs and attacks the inside part of the ball. From the left side he uses his lower half and gets extension with the top hand. Continuing to loosen his grip and keep a quiet head will allow him to recognize pitches more consistently. Nicholas will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/23/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. In the MIF, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are aggressive in attacking balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft / clean and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Mental makeup is a plus as he works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Nicholas has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Nicholas is a very coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. In the field, Nicholas shows active feet and is very agile covering ground to field the ball. He has a quick release to his throws as they remain on-line and carry through his target. Nicholas can improve defensively by presenting his glove out front sooner to field ground balls. At the plate, Nicholas shows good contact skills from both sides on the plate. He sets up in an athletic stance and is smooth getting back into his load. He takes a direct swing path to the ball with explosive bat speed and finishes with a firm front side in his lower half. He produces solid contact and sprays the ball to all fields. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by keeping his hands raised in his load. Overall, Nicholas is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

07/06/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Nicholas is a very talented/athletic MIF who continues to shine. At the plate, this switch hitter has fluid rhythm to load with good hand separation. He fires the barrel on a level/direct path and squares the ball up with some pop. At SS, he has active footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He presents his glove, makes the plays with soft/sure hands and works in-line toward his target. Continuing to play through the ball more will help to relieve his arm letting his lower 1/2 assist more in the throw. This 2021 grad has a ton of upside and is one to keep an eye on in the years to come.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Nicholas continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. At SS, he is a smooth / fluid fielder with hands / feet working well together as he plays through the ball toward his target. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the in between hop. Continuing to develop his foot speed will help to increase lateral range in the MIF. Offensively, he works on time and takes a hack at pitches he likes. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. With 5 years to further develop, Nicholas has abilities with time and room to improve.

10/17/2015 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Nicholas starts from a wide-based square stance at the plate. Right now the hands have a tendency to drop in the loading mechanism; Nicholas should work to activate the hands by pushing them slightly up and back as he works through a softer stride with his front foot. Nicholas is at his best when the timing syncs well with the pitch and he gives himself plenty of time to set up and is not rushed. Keeping the eyes down at the contact point allows Nicholas to control his stroke well and also allows him to have greater barrel accuracy than when the eyes and head pull up and out. Nicholas is a young hitter that will benefit from continued hard work on the mechanics and fluidity in his swing.

08/18/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Nicholas is a switch-hitting MIF who graduates in 2021. Defensively, he shows active footwork and comes to get the GB. He works into an athletic/square fielding position. He gathers smoothly and works in-line toward his target at 1B, with accurate throws across the diamond. With the bat, Nicholas shows similarly from both sides. He has a square setup with rhythm in his hands. He connects and extends well through his finish, resulting in line-drives back up the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. More prep footwork
2. Lateral quickness
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Relax/loosen grip
2. Increase bat speed
3. More extension through contact

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
