05/13/2012 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Nick is a young 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2016. Feet are active as he works to square up balls displaying clean hands. He moves well laterally, especially glove side, flashing range. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process and get rids of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Montemayor shows a balanced approach and loads well. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side as he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-68 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is gained and off speed pitches are further developed.
