08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Nicholas is a well-rounded 1B/3B prospect who has a large, well-built frame and graduates in 2018. As a left-handed hitter, Nicholas has a square stance with a centered balance. He has a fluid load with smooth rhythm and a closed stance as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Nicholas shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path getting good extension at contact. He engages his hips and gets good rotation showing consistent contact. Nicholas has a middle of the field approach and the ability to spray it to all fields. In the field, Nicholas plays with effective footwork and covers good ground. He presents his glove and fields the ball in an athletic, square position. Nicholas has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from an over the top arm slot. He plays with good momentum showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Nicholas has a versatile skill set and the right approach on both sides of the ball giving him good upside to take his game to the next level.

06/20/2016 - College PREP - Houston, TX Nicholas is a 2018 1B with a projectable frame (6'2", 195 lbs). In the field, Nicholas shows good pre-pitch movement and body control while moving to field the ball. He presents his glove out front to field the ball with soft, sure hands. He gains momentum to his target well on his throws which allows them to remain on line. Nicholas can improve defensively by working on agility drills to improve his quickness on the field. At the plate, Nicholas has an aggressive approach while flashing some gap to gap power. He shows good balance in the box and his hips and hands work well together to launch on time and extend through the ball with good bat speed. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by striding more directly to the pitcher and by activating his hands in his load. Overall, Nicholas is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
