06/07/2015 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Nicholas is a R/R 2-way player as a C/1B. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. He has fluid rhythm to load, waits for his pitch and swings on a level path, driving the ball on a line. More lower 1/2 drive will result in increased power at the plate. Behind the dish, this backstop sits in well and tracks pitches into his mitt. He works hard laterally to center pitches off of his chest. Exchange is clean with accurate throws down to 2B (pop times of 2.30). Working to quicken his transfer/exchange will help to lower pop times. At 1B, he shows active footwork and hustles around the GB into a square fielding position. He tracks the ball into his glove, is sure handed and gathers smoothly. Developing his footwork/agility will allow for increased lateral range. Only a 2017 grad - Rath is a versatile player who should find success on the diamond.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
