02/19/2018 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Nicholas is a hardworking 1B prospect who graduates in 2018. As a left-handed hitter, Nicholas has an open setup with a centered balance and firm front side. He has fluid rhythm with a smooth load and a short, square stride. Nicholas has fast bat speed with a short, direct swing path producing hard contact. He is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to drive the ball to each gap with power. In the field, Nicholas makes the routine plays and covers good ground. He fields the ball in a square position with soft hands. Nicholas has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action. He has a quick release showing consistent throws. Overall, Nicholas has the right approach on both sides of the ball and upside to take his skills to the next level.

08/02/2017 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Nicholas continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He plays with a lot of energy and presents a sure glove well out front. Athletic abilities are shown off on his feeds of the double play as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/31/2016 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Nicholas is a solid 1B who will graduate in 2018. In the field, Nicholas prepares to field the ball well and has sure hands that he presents on time. He has a clean exchange and his throws stay on-line to his target. Nicholas can improve defensively by doing agility drills to improve his quickness and by incorporating a long toss program to build up his arm strength. At the plate, Nicholas shows good balance in the box and uses a square stride to the ball. His hands are activated in his load and he comes through the zone with a direct path. He rotates his core well as he extends well through the zone producing good bat speed and some pull side pop. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by incorporating his lower half more in his swing. Overall, Nicholas is a solid 1B and with two more years to develop he has the potential to contribute at the next level.

07/16/2015 - College PREP - Auburn Hills, MI Nicholas Ringler is a 2018 1B that showed very consistent actions on both sides of the baseball. Offensively, he tracked the ball in to contact and hit gap-to-gap with his approach. He was quiet with his head which lead to some strong barrel accuracy and has a chance to hit as he gets more front side extension. Defensively at 1B, he prepped his feet, worked around the ball, and had a clean exchange to throw. He brought good energy to the diamond and had a bounce in his step. As he continues to progress, he should work through ground balls more consistently and add quickness to his feet. In all - Nicholas is a solid built player that has the fall and winter to add strength and speed for the spring season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
