Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

10/11/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Nicholas is a SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At SS, Nicholas shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He makes the routine plays and has a smooth exchange, making accurate, on-line throws to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Nicholas field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and shows fluid rhythm to load. He drives through well with his lower half and produces solid line drives. Nicholas can barrel up more baseballs by taking a more level swing path. On the mound, Nicholas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 71mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 61-64mph with 9-3 break. Changeup sits from 64-67mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Long tossing can help Nicholas build up his arm strength. Overall, Nicholas is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

07/28/2020 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Nicholas is a coachable SS/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the National World Series at Pirate City. In the field, Nicholas creates good angles and is agile moving to the ball. He fields the ball out in front of his body and makes a quick exchange, keeping his throws accurate to his target. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Nicholas improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance with his hands held high. He works to barrel up the baseball and produces solid line drives. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by getting his stride foot down sooner. On the mound, Nicholas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing with a controlled landing. Nicholas shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 62-63mph with 10-4 break. Extending through his release can help Nicholas improve as a pitcher. Overall, Nicholas is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/14/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Nicholas is a RHP who has a 3-pitch mix. On the mound, he works from the stretch only, has smooth separation, keeps his eyes on the target and gets good glove-side lead. FB ranges from 71-73 mph as he can hit his spots commanding it well. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with sharp break when consistent with release point. Slider shows 10/4 shape with tight spin. Working to finish with more extension on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. As a hitter, he shows a tall/open stance with a quiet head tracking pitches into the zone. He takes a hack at pitches he likes, barrels the ball up and hits it to all parts of the field. Engaging his lower 1/2 more will help to tap into more power. This 2021 grad has tools with still time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft /sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 65-66 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

07/16/2019 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Nicholas is a lean RHP/SS who will graduate in 2021. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70 mph. Breaking ball sits from 55-58 mph with 11/5 shape with gradual break. Changeup sits from 62-64 mph but throws too hard, resembling fastball. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a direct / level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Nicholas has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
