Official Scouting Report

  • OF/2BPosition Projection

12/27/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Pittsburgh, PA Nicholas showed some improvements in his overall game during his last workout. He projects nicely both in the OF and in the INF. In the OF, Nicholas showed quick/active feet, good range, and a low fielding position. He attacks aggressively, and throws with consistency and direction toward his target. At 2nd base, Nicholas has fluid footwork, he presents his glove well, and stays through with carry and accuracy to his target. At the plate, Nicholas can switch hit. From the right, he has a simple/aggressive swing, some bat speed, and he swings in good rhythm. From the left, Nicholas has good balance, still eyes, and a repeatable/solid stroke. Nicholas can continue to improve with work on the following.

Outfield
1. Finish throws
2. Long toss
Infield
1. Fielding position
2. Hands
Offense
1. Level swing
2. Avoid spinning off
3. Lower 1/2

10/29/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Pittsburgh, PA Nicholas is a solid, 2-way player as an OF/2B. Defensively in the OF, he tracks down hard-hit fly balls with fluid footwork. He secures the catch with soft hands and makes strong/accurate throws to his target. At 2B, he takes quick lateral routes to the GB and fields the ball with soft hands. He comes up with a quick exchange and plays through the ball towards his target. With the bat, Nicholas is a switch hitter with smooth rhythm to load. He whips his barrel fast through the zone and hits hard line drives. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Better double play feeds
2. Quicker transfer on slow rollers
3. Stay low
Outfield
1. Work behind more
2. Play through more
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Front foot timing
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Contact points

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
