03/22/2009 - College PREP - Providence, RI Nicholas shows as a catcher with a narrow, thin frame that shows future projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is near average and he utilizes his feet well through the blocking process in getting down and around the baseball quickly. He uses his body and keeps all balls in front displaying above average blocking skills. Receiving skills are solid average through a solid set up that allows his glove action to work around the baseball, presenting a clear view to umpire. Arm strength is solid average showing some carry. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and lowering pop times. He uses his body and feet well through the throwing process with pop times dropping as more arm strength is developed. At the plate, Savage has slightly average abilities with average power. He sits in well, maintains balance, and displays a solid approach. Hands are quick showing bat speed. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize the lower half more efficiently through the swing. Nicholas has potential with a lot of room to continue to improve.
