01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Nicholas is a talented 2018 Shortstop prospect. Plays with rhythm, fields the ball well with a good funnel and works through the ball well. Nice feel for his backhand, showed the ability to make a variety of plays. Has nice short compact swing, likes to drive the ball hard up the middle of the field. Very good barrel accuracy, does a nice job controlling the barrel to put all pitch locations in play. Showcased the tools needed to do a great job at the next level.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Nicholas is a projectable two-way prospect who has smooth actions on the field and plays hard at all times. At the dish, his short, compact swing allows him to barrel the ball up consistently and hit the ball hard. His setup is athletic and balanced and he loads to a stacked position with an on time stride to be ready to explode through the zone. He shows a quick bat through the zone with a direct path to the ball and feel for the barrel to make consistent contact and gap to gap ability. At short, his feet are active and efficient, giving him extended range to both his glove and backhand side and he fields low and out front. His hands are soft and quick to exchange and release, making him a very able DP partner. On the hill, this right hander works quickly and induces lots of soft contact as he attacks the zone with his fastball that reaches 78mph. His loose, quick arm action gives his pitches good movement with natural tail on his fastball and 11-5 break on his curveball. Staying directional to the plate will help his arm stay in sync and improve control as well as movement on his offerings. Nicholas is an exciting prospect who looks to have the tools to play at the next level.

08/21/2016 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Nicholas is a SS/RHP who will graduate in 2018. In the field, Nicholas is quick and uses his feet efficiently to cover ground. He gets into a low, athletic position to field and presents his soft hands out front to the ball. He has a quick, clean exchange with a short arm action from a high 3/4 angle. He has a quick release and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to be accurate and on line to his target. At the plate, Nicholas sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He is smooth getting back into his load and maintains balance throughout his swing. He comes through the zone with great bat speed and takes a short, direct route to the ball. Nicholas can improve as a hitter by incorporating his lower half more throughout his swing. On the mound, Nicholas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball sitting from 76-79mph with arm side tail action. Breaking ball ranges from 66-69mph with sharp 10-4 break. Changeup 69-71mph with good arm side run. Nicholas can improve as a pitcher by keeping his eyes on his target throughout his motion. Overall, Nicholas is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
