Official Scouting Report

  • SS/OFPosition Projection

09/28/2014 - National Tryout - Pittsburgh, PA Nicholas showed offensive improvements and raised hitting grades to 40's during his last event in Pittsburgh. At the plate, Nicholas has a solid approach, good bat speed, and he uses his lower body. He has an activated load and squares the ball up well on the barrel. At SS, Nicholas fields aggressively, in a low position, and flashes a nice approach. He has soft hands, takes good angles to the ball, and he throws with a good arm action to his target.

07/07/2014 - National Tryout - Cleveland, OH Nicholas continues to progress. This R/R OF puts his athleticism on display. In the OF, he is aggressive and tracks down balls hit into the gaps with speed. Ball is quick/clean from glove to hand as he fires accurate throws into his target. With the bat, he shows a balanced approach with good rhythm. Barrel accuracy is plus as he squares the ball up consistently. Vaccaro has a bright future in the game.

02/23/2014 - National Tryout - Dayton, OH Nicholas continues to work hard and develop in his game. This middle infielder shows plus quickness as he has active feet and comes to get the ball. He fields the ball cleanly and has a quick exchange to throw. At the plate, this RH swinger shows a well balanced approach with a solid base. He delivers the barrel on a short/level path and strokes it on a line. Only a 2019 grad - Vaccaro has a lot of time to develop in his game.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Nicholas is an athletic two-way outfielder who continually strives to improve and compete. Defensively, Nicholas is very aggressive, takes great jumps, good angles, and closes in on the ball from behind while working through to his target. He continues to improve his ability to hit cut off men accurately and control his approach to the ball. At the plate, Nicholas has a simple, short and compact swing. He will continue to develop positively as he improves his load and lower half action. Nicholas is a great player to coach, competes well and wants to keep improving.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
