10/10/2018 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Nicholas is a strong and tall 2019 catching prospect that works hard. Behind the dish, Nicholas has an athletic primary and secondary stance. He's quiet in his primary and works behind the ball when receiving. He leads with his glove and controls balls in the dirt when blocking. He has a clean exchange and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing. He needs to learn how to control the tempo and be more vocal in game. At the plate, Nicholas starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside rotation. He attacks the inside part of the ball and creates pull side lift. He needs to continue to back the ball up and keep a middle approach. Nicholas is a talented player that was a hitting machine throughout the week with 5 hits in 8 AB's. Nicholas will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/25/2018 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Nicholas showed good offensive and defensive skills during his time at the UA Southwest. Offensively, Nicholas has a good set-up, fast bat speed, and he stays inside the ball well. He has good balance, a level approach, and uses some lower body. Behind the plate, Nicholas sits in well, he sticks the ball properly, and tucks his chin when blocking. He takes good angles to block, his exchange is quick, and he throws with accuracy from a loose arm to his target. Nicholas is a leader on the field and will be successful at the next level.

03/18/2018 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Nicholas is a tall, athletic C/RHP who has a bright future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 1.96-2.10 with carry through his target. He will control the running game with his feet / arm. Receiving / blocking skills show as well above average tools that will play well at the next level. He is flexible and displays a solid setup utilizing his body well through the blocking process. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with tremendous power potential through an athletic setup. He gets to a strong launch position and shows quick hands (90 mph exit velocity) that generate bat speed to and through contact, creating extension. Barrel accuracy is a plus with strength in his swing as the baseball explodes off the bat when centered. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with tailing action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Nicholas has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
