Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

11/12/2017 - College PREP - Davie, FL Nicholas is a long, lean (6'2”, 175lbs) two-way player who uses his frame as an advantage at both positions. He can dot on the mound, showing command to both sides of the plate with all of his pitches. He gets a good push from his lower half and shows a loose, clean arm stroke to get to a consistent release point and jump at the hitter. He features a fastball ay 80mph with cut action, an 11-5 curveball with depth and a sweeping slider at 73mph. At third, he has efficient footwork to surround the ball and field with presented hands in the center of his body. He shows a strong arm and makes accurate feeds and throws across the diamond. At the plate, he is balanced in his setup with a strong lower half that generates bat speed and pop. He tracks the ball well and shows good barrel accuracy to hit the ball square and hard to the pull side. Clearing his front side will allow him to work on a more direct path to the ball. Nicholas is an intriguing prospect with lots of potential on the field.

05/27/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Jupiter, FL Nicholas is a tall, 2-way player with a thin frame. On the hill, Nicholas has a short arm action, good direction toward home, and he finishes in a complete position. At SS, Nicholas has firm hands, he makes the routine plays, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Nicholas has a tall set-up, good balance, and he can spray the ball to all fields. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Separation
2. Lengthen arm
3. Balance point
Defense
1. Widen base
2. Field out front
3. Long toss
Offense
1. Widen base
2. Level swing
3. Shorten swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
