09/26/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Allen is an extremely talented infield defender with excellent overall quickness and catch & throw skills. His hands are sure to play the ball, and what he lacks in pure arm strength he more than makes up for with his ability to make throws from a variety of angles and off balance. At the plate, he features a simple approach without many moving parts and does a good job of getting the barrel to the ball both in BP and against quality live stuff. Overall, among the best defensive infielders in the 2017 class with a solid right-handed bat.

09/27/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures West Nick is a special young player with the type of defensive skills that are hard to find. He is an instinctual defender who anticipates well and combines that with lateral quickness to produce excellent range. His hands are sure and he has a clean, quick exchange and release. Despite the quick release he does not sacrifice any of his plus arm strength as the ball travels true to the target with life. He is natural around the bag, on the run and throwing from different arm angles. Overall, this is an advanced package in the infield - the rare quick-twitch athlete that projects to stay at SS at high levels. At the plate Nick has quick hands and a feel for the barrel. His weight shift approach with a high one-handed finish leads to consistent elevation, though the strength is not yet there to drive many of those fly balls out of the park. His game ABs showed a more aggressive stroke than BP and he has the eye/hand coordination to square up good pitching. Some refinements to his offensive approach should unlock his full potential as a hitter. Overall, this young SS is a rare combination of tools that will attract a lot of attention over the next few years.

07/31/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Southwest Championships 18U Participant At the plate, short stroke, good bat speed, ball jumps off bat, good extension, barrel stays in zone, smooth natural actions, soft hands, quick twitch, good feel for position, runs well

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
