03/10/2019 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Nick is a strong C prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Nick shows active footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body when blocking. He sits in a low stance and receives with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and makes accurate throws with good carry through the 2B bag. Getting rid of the ball quicker can help Nick improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He produces consistent contact and line drives. Nick can improve as a hitter by taking a shorter swing to the ball. Overall, Nick is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Nick is a very advanced player with lots of tools to like both at and behind the plate. He is a polished receiver who works around the ball and uses a stiff wrist to earn extra strikes for his pitchers. He shows quick feet and hands to slide and block and exchange and throw to second. At the dish, he gets on plane early and stays through the zone to hit any pitch. He shows fast bat speed and strong wrists to make hard contact and deliver the barrel to show gap to gap ability. Nick is a team player who is a very exciting prospect with lots of talent on the field.

11/18/2018 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Nick continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, pop times showed in the 2.30 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and he works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft / clean as he sticks ball well in the zone through an athletic setup. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, deadening balls well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

07/23/2018 - College PREP - Providence, RI Nick showed well offensively and defensively during his last workout with The Factory. At the plate, Nick has an athletic set-up, good balance, and a rhythmic swing. He has a good hand load, stays inside the baseball well, and makes square contact gap to gap. Behind the plate, Nick sits in low and quietly, his set-up is square, and he presents his glove well. He tracks the ball well, deadens softly on his chest, and throws with accuracy from a long arm action to his target.

12/27/2017 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Nick continues to show a bright future on the diamond. At the plate is where he continues to show best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.25 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. Receiving/blocking skills have really improved, showing as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. He shows a solid setup and soft glove action, sticking balls in the zone well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind dish. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

12/03/2017 - College PREP - Lewiston, ME Nick posted best catching grades, pop times, and hitting numbers at his last workout at Bates. Pop times were as low as 2.22 to 2nd base. Nick showed quick/fluid feet, a low/athletic fielding position, and good flexion. He has athletic actions, blocks and receives well, and has carry with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Nick sits in athletically, he has a short swing, and good balance. He has a middle of the field approach, fast bat speed, and makes hard contact into the gaps.

06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Nick is a hardworking and very coachable player and continues to show a promising future on the diamond. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.25 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks the ball well and sticks balls in zone, displaying a soft glove action. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and will continue to increase as he improves flexibility. At the plate, he continues to shine. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel is whipped through the zone as he connects through a line drive path. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

11/13/2016 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Nick continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.21. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.32. He will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving/blocking tools show as playable skills as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields.

06/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series Nick is a strong/projectable backstop who has a high baseball IQ. He brings a positive attitude to the field and is willing to work to get the best out of himself. Behind the plate - he sits in well and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. He is quick to replace his feet on throws down and stays directional - making accurate throws. Working to stay low to throw and gain more ground will help to lower pop times. As a hitter - Beck has an aggressive approach. He shows an athletic/balanced setup with a solid base. Hands are quick through a level path as he squares the ball up and hits line-drives consistently. Beck is a coachable player who makes adjustments quickly. We look forward to seeing his progression as he still has a ton of time (2020 grad).

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Nick is a solid (5'8"/145) catcher who showed well during his time at the Winter Classic. Offensively is where he excels as he steps into the box looking to swing it. Barrel delivery is quick through a level path as he engages his lower 1/2 and connects with some pop. He barrels the ball up and extends well through contact. A looser/more relaxed grip along with being a little shorter/direct on his swing path will help to take his offensive skills to the next level. Behind the plate, Nick sits in well with athletic actions. He works hard laterally and bodies up pitches in the dirt. Throws down to 2B are accurate with pop times dropping as he gains more arm strength. Beck is a coachable player who works hard every day to be the best he can be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
