Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/OFPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Nick is a strong/projectable 1B/OF who showed well during his time in Arizona. With the bat, this righty steps in with an aggressive approach looking to swing it. He gets good hand separation on his load as he fires the barrel with leverage. He engages his lower 1/2 well and drives the ball with pop. In the OF, he has active prep and takes solid routes to track down fly-balls. He works behind and through the ball, gaining ground toward his target. Brown is a solid, versatile athlete who will make things happen on the diamond.

04/10/2016 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Nick is a strong (6'2"/210) 2-way player as a RHP/1B. On the mound, this righty has an effective 3-pitch mix in which he pounds the zone. He maintains solid mechanics throughout his delivery and repeats well. Separation is smooth as he drives downhill, in-line toward the dish. FB ranges from 76-77 mph while showing slight arm-side run. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape and will be sharper as he works to stay on top. Changeup has sinking action and will get GB outs. At 1B - Nick moves well laterally around the GB and into a square fielding position. He funnels the ball with soft/sure hands and can pick it. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced setup with rhythm to load. He whips the barrel with speed through a level path and squares the ball up with pop. This 2018 grad has a ton of upside and will make an impact in a variety of ways on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
