Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Nick is a solid, strong RHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 82-83 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his splitfinger with solid sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. At the plate he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows good plate discipline and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Nick has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
