01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Cheema continues to impress on the diamond. At the plate, this strong righty steps into the box with a purpose. He creates strong leverage to and through the ball with it exploding off of his barrel. He will be a run producer with his big time power and will drive the ball to the deep parts of the field. Behind the dish, Nick is a workhorse. He is quick around pitches in the dirt, centering the ball off of his chest. Throws to 2B show accuracy and carry that runners will not want to test. Nick is fun to watch as he will play at a very high level.

11/01/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures Texas Nick has a thick, sturdy frame with present strength and the sought-after ability to hit the ball out of the park. At the plate, he uses his strong lower half and natural hitter actions to loft balls to the pull side. The ball comes off his bat hard and carries a long way. He showed the ability to have quality game ABs as well with 2 hits and a walk in his 4 plate appearances. Nick also defends well, using his 90 mph raw arm strength to get the ball to 2B in 1.88. In the past we've also seen Nick get on the mound and pitch effectively. This is an exciting young prospect with the chance to play a premium a defensive position and hit in the middle of the order at the next level.

04/13/2014 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Nick is a very talented 2-way player as a C/RHP. With the bat, this RH hitter shows a well balanced approach with patience. He shows good rhythm getting back into a strong loaded position, ready to unlock. He utilizes his lower 1/2 well and squares the ball up, creating hard contact and driving the ball to all parts of the field. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion. Quick footwork allow him to get around balls in the dirt, centering them off of his chest. He has a quick exchange and strong arm with pop times as low as 1.96. On the bump, FB jumps out of his hand and on hitters (84 mph). He keeps the ball down in the zone and throws strikes. Finishing with extension out over his front side will help to improve effectiveness on his pitches. Nick (2016 grad) is a solid prospect who is on to keep an eye on.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
