01/18/2013 - Arizona National Spring Training Nick is 2013 graduate who is a great leader behind the dish. As a catcher Nick is a receiver any pitcher would like to throw to with good sway, using his lower half and sticks it well. He is consistent with his throws but could shorten his arm action to be even quicker down to second. As a blocker Nick gets the job done, but would be even better if he got down sooner, tracking the ball better, and wasn't as high in his chest. As with every player Nick would also benefit from a consistent long toss program to continue improving his arm strength. At the plate Couch is a line drive hitter that starts athletically with a solid stride and load. He has good bat speed and squares the ball up at contact with a short swing path although his head does occasionally pull of the ball. If Nick smoothed out his rhythm and used his lower half more he would add some pop to his bat. Nick has the mental make-up and work ethic to continue to get better, by making some mechanical adjustments and adding some strength he will continue to improve both at the plate and behind it.
