Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

12/20/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Nick continues to show solid abilities in his game. On the mound, Nick has a free arm action, on-time separation, and good direction toward home. He has good glove side lead, holds runners on base well, and competes in the zone. Working on balance point and finish will help with his development on the mound. At 3B, Nick has playable hands and feet, he makes the routine plays, and he throws with a short arm action to his target. Working to quicken his feet will help him develop more range. At the plate, Nick has a square set-up, good balance, and he tracks the ball well. He activates his load, and flashes some barrel accuracy. Staying shorter with his swing and working on the lower half are two areas he can work on. Nick is a motivated player and student and he will make a good addition to a college program this fall.

08/05/2013 - College PREP - Wilmington, DE Nick is a solid (5'6/180 lbs) RHP/3B. On the mound, Nick has a 3/4 arm angle and throws strikes with his fastball(76-83 mph) and curveball (66-70 mph). He keeps his eye on the target, gets good glove side lead. As Nick is driving towards the plate, he can ride his back leg longer to stay in line with the plate to help improve mound effectiveness. At 3B, he has some natural instincts playing through the baseball. Nick hustles to every ball and should trust instincts in fielding the ball more loosely in front of his stance. He has aggressive footwork and should continue to work on staying in line with his throw to target. At the plate, Nick has a slight open stance which allows him to get his bat straight back and into an on-time ready position. Nick does a good job in utilizing his lower half giving him gap power. Nick is a hard nose player that can help a team win on the mound and at 3B.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
