ADVANCED SWING METRICS BY SWINGTRACKER

Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Nick showed as a 6'2/180 lbs 3B/RHP at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. Offensively, he displayed strong tracking ability, and competed in every at-bat, putting the ball in play, or drawing a walk. He rotated his core in the swing to help generate decent bat speed and pop. Loosening his actions, and becoming more rhythmic to hit will allow for more consistently hard contact. Defensively, he got into his fielding position with decent body control and made the routine plays. His arm showed decent carry and he was very assertive during team defense, communicating well and he always wanted to be making plays. On the mound, he threw a FB and an 11/5 CB. He gathered himself over the rubber to initiate his delivery, and worked with a quick tempo. In all - Nick has a projectable build and fundamental skill to continue adding strength to in his senior spring season.

07/07/2015 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Nick showed on the mound and at 3B for the first time at the event and has improved his baseball abilities. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level. Arm strength has improved as indicated by his top velocity of 82 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-82 mph. Breaking ball shows as a solid pitch that will get outs at the next level, displaying 11/5 shape with late / sharp breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes. At 3B, foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.28 runner. He works to get around balls and plays through will presenting hands well out front. Glove action is soft / sure. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he continues to improves his feeds of the double play. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase has works to use his lower half more aggressively and adds overall body strength.

08/24/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Poughkeepsie, NY Nick is a tall, thin, 2-way player who plays OF and RHP. Defensively, Nick has sure hands, playable feet, and he takes good angles to the ball. He fields on the glove side, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Nick has a long arm action, level shoulders, and good direction toward home. He uses his lower 1/2 well and finishes in a complete position. At the plate, Nick has a square / athletic set-up, a short / square stride, and good barrel accuracy. He makes square contact, has a line drive approach, and he hits hard to the pull side. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Avoid drifting to ball
2. Quicken feet
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Quicken tempo
2. Work down in zone
Offense
1. Loosen grip
2. Keep hands high
3. More lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
