08/05/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 2 Nick continues to show steady improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a near above average runner, at 7.21. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. He moves well laterally, displaying range. Arm strength shows some carry and he will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved now showing solid average abilities. He shows a solid approach with a loose swing and shows a feel for the barrel. He was 2 for 9 at the event.

04/26/2009 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Nick is a 2B with a small, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is solid average and he would benefit from getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He utilizes his feet well displaying good lateral movement. Glove action is presented out front, showing soft hands. Defensive abilities are solid average in the middle of the IF. Arm strength is slightly above average but will improve if Nick gets on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. At the plate, Riccione has slightly above average abilities. Lower half works and he keeps hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is a little long and he needs to work to keep hands through the baseball at the point of contact, currently, in and out. Power numbers will increase as more overall body strength is gain. Nick has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
