04/01/2012 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Nick is a big, solid 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2014. Currently, he projects best at 3B for the next level. Feet are active and display soft / clean hands through a controlled approach. To continue to improve defensive grades he needs to play through balls more and present hands more out front. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond. At the plate, Spangler shows a balanced approach and displays quick hands. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-80 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early break as he needs to create more extension out front. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as better off-speed pitches are developed. With 2 years to continue to improve, Nick has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.
