06/05/2013 - Under Armour Southeast Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Nick is a talented C with a developing defensive skill set. As a receiver, Nick catches with soft hands, strong wrists and has a good feel for catching and holding a pitch at the appropriate time. He is a big sitter behind the plate, has a nice low target and will benefit from being earlier to block with his chin tucked and wide base to improve body control. He gets to his feet well to throw and will increase his carry while quickening his pop time if he follows his throws aggressively with his feet. At the plate, Nick continues to uses an open stance and a leg kick to launch to the ball. He has an advanced feel for hitting the ball the other way, can handle the bat well in situational hitting and should continue to work on striding to a soft front foot. Keeping his hips behind the ball, ultimately improving his power production and overall quality of contact should remain the focus moving forward to give Nick more balance in his offensive skill set. Overall, Nick is a fantastic young man and an even better teammate. He brings energy and passion to the park every day and with continued hard work on his game and his fitness, should have no problem achieving his goal of playing college baseball.

09/30/2012 - College PREP - Charlotte, NC Nick is an intriguing two-way player who tackles the difficult combination of C and RHP. He is capable both ways, though it looks now like his biggest upside is as a position player. Behind the plate, he is a quiet receiver who has soft hands and a feel for helping his pitchers get strikes. He is solid on balls in the dirt showing the ability to deaden balls and keep them close to him out in front. His exchange is clean and efficient on throws to 2B and his times will improve as he quickens his feet a bit and continues to gain arm strength. At the plate, the ball jumps off Nick's bat. He is a big, physical young man with quick hands who generates bat speed. On the mound, Nick throws a fastball in the upper 70s with some run and mixes in two breaking balls - a curve ball and slider. He has some feel for pitching with an arm that works well. Overall, Nick projects best as a catcher where his receiving skills and durable body coupled with a run producing bat make him an attractive prospect.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
