01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Nicolas is a two way player in the OF and on the mound as a LHP with a tall, thin frame that does show projection as it continues to physically mature. Foot speed is below average and he does need to get on a speed / agility program to aid in improving foot quickness for the next level. He does take proper routes and angles in tracking down balls. Defensive abilities are near above average in the OF. Arm strength is solid average displaying some carry. A strict long toss program will aid in further developing more arm strength and carry on throws. At the plate, Cardona has near above average ability with average power. Hands work direct to the baseball and threw at the point of contact, creating a short, compact swing. Power numbers will increase as move overall body strength is developed. On the mound, fastball shows arm side run with sinking action at times. He did not throw any off pitches but did show an upside with fastball. He has plus command working in and out, keeping hitters off stride. Nicolas has abilities and will catch the eyes of some college coaches with his baseball abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
