01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown Nicolas is an athletic and talented 2023 2-way prospect that was eager to learn. At SS, Nicolas is on time with his preps step, he presents a low/early glove, and has a good first step to the ball. He has a clean exchange, a strong arm from, and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Nicolas starts in an athletic stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside drive. He's on time with the fastball, hits off a firm front side, and drives the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and stay balanced through contact. On the bump, Nicolas gathers over his backside, rides his back leg toward the plate, and separates on time. He works north to south in his delivery and has confidence in his fastball. Nicolas is a gamer and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/17/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Nicolas is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. In the field, Nicolas shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a quick exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good carry through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed which leads to solid line drives. On the mound, Nicolas shows a good tempo as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm action and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Nicolas has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph. Breaking ball sits from 62-63mph with 11-5 break. Changeup ranges from 63-66mph as he throws with fastball arm speed. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
